Good Paying Jobs

The people of Idaho and Kootenai County need good paying jobs. For too long the biggest export of Idaho has been our children because work is not available and they must move out of state to earn a decent living. The Right-To-Work Law passed and supported by the party in power has meant the right to work for low wages. This has resulted in hard times for many people in North Idaho.

Unemployment in Kootenai County is 8.6%. Idaho's women are the lowest paid in the nation next to Wyoming. In 1999 Idaho ranked 40th in the nation on median household income and ranked 41st with 13.9% of it's population below the poverty level. More than 24% of the households with children had children in the reduced or free meal program at the schools.

Education and personal initiative are the historic means to personal prosperity. The education and skills of the people are what attract prospective businesses to bring quality jobs to the area. We need to invest in the future of Idaho and adequately fund our elementary, secondary and higher education institutions
